Re: Getting started on a power amp or preamp kit - any kit

1) You already have a low power amp - your headphone amp. Hook that up to your speakers. Now, build something 15W and up range. You will be depressed if you go through the trouble and expense of an amp that does not have enough muscle.

2) Mostly listen to CDs? Build a passive pre for under $20. Try that for a while and decide later if you need an active linestage - you might not.

3) An old ST70 with a new driver board is perfect for your budget. You will like it. There will be no regret, economic or otherwise. With a passive pre, you can put your sand amp in the closet, which will be very satisfying.
