Theoretically, I do not think a bypass cap is needed here, although I have not tried it. It beats the purpose, at least to my understanding. My purpose of installing the battery is to get rid of the cathode bypass capacitor and yet still eliminate any local feedback. What I get is a better sound without any capacitor coloration. With a cathode resistor alone you get bias and local feedback, with the bypass cap, you eliminate local feedback, but a cost of having coloration from the cap. So how do you eliminate local feedback and minimize capacitor coloration, my answer is to use battery bias. Capacitor coloration can not be totally eliminated because you still have the coupling cap to deal with.
