Sure,
If you are talking about the metal, oil filled motor run caps. If they are not damaged or leaking. They are probably fine.
You can use your DVM set to ohm’s. Short the terminals with an insulated screw driver or something, just to be safe. Then connect the meter leads.What you are looking to see is the reading going up to a fairly high value. This could take some time, so if it was trending upwards and not a dead short. That would be good enough for me…John
