Mixing is not something you want to do with tubes. Yes, the first mic preamp but there after once the gain is out of the noise you can make a mixer much less noisier with FETs and BJTs. Mixers can be noise makers depending on how many channels you open up and then there is the matter of a tube active combining network if you want pan and EQ (the list gets bigger) which is another noise producer. I like to put my mic preamps up near the mic and drive the lines at or near +4dbm. Then the mixer can be virtually passive. The more complex you make the mixer the worse it will sound! I prefer single ended mic preamps. Just my two cents! Ray
