Re: Several PS design questions

Hi, Myles,

The power supply for DarkMœb was an adaptation of his existing transformer as well, and I was doing gymnastics to get his B+ voltage down to the 440v screen rating of the 7591.  It looks to me like you'll get 375-380VDC from your transformer with a vacuum rectified supply, or about 400VDC from sand rectifiers; that's actually a better operating point for the 7591 anyway.  The 7591, like the 7355, was developed for late model econo-receivers, where they would operate them at very high volts on the plate, substantially lowered screen volts, and very low current; this to maximize the advertised power rating of the amp while staying inside the plate dissipation rating of the device.  If you look at the example circuits in the manuals, they were almost in class B.

What kind of power transformer do you have?  You say it has a high voltage center-tapped HV secondary; does it have a 5v winding on it for a vacuum rectifier?

Aloha,

Poinz
