Almost all of the newer motor run caps have a built in circuit interupter. The terminal, where you connect the wires, will "spring out" in a fault condition and you would want to allow clearance for this to happen. Otherwise, to the best of my knowledge, mounting posistion does not matter. They are commonly installed upside down on motors so rain doesn't cause a short.Russ
