DIY HFS's Tram W.O.T. is definitely a possibility. I've heard some of Brian's other products, and they're good-sounding. Looks-wise, well...
In the world of readymades, I would consider buying a Hovland with built-in phono. It's a litle bit pricey, but it's not every day that I get a new component.
