The cap that immedeatly follows the rectifier should be small when using tube rectifiers. This is to keep the peak charging current within the tubes capability. With solid state rectifiers this is not such an issue.The filter after the choke can be larger because the choke limits the charging current to the second cap, therebye protectng the rectifier. In my experience larger caps afte the choke work better. Place them as close to the output stage as practicle.
