You might try some of that antioxidant connection grease on the various connections...you can get it at automotive and marine shops- it's amazing stuff and it improves connections like these. I use it whenever I have intermittent connections like this (although I've never tried it on a maglite). Just squirt a bit of the grease on the connections and reassemble.If you live near the coast it's essential...especially on connections inside your car.
