Hi, Bill. My advice is make a nice cup of tea and put your worries on the shelf. You are Always going to hear about some New thing that bests the vacuum tube designs. I have been hearing and reading this same meme for 40 plus years. Think about the advertisements of the solid state makers: tube-like sound, as good as tubes, liquid like tubes, closer to tube sound than solid state. Look at the arena of professional studio gear. Count how many kinds of tube microphones are currently being made, tube mike pre's, etc. It has even become tougher for solid state amp makers to build their designs because certain discrete parts are impossible to get as manufacturers quit making them. Mikey is right. I too think you are asking this question even as your heart of hearts is telling you the answer.
