Several reasons IME:1/ they allow a far better choice of short interconnect/long speaker cable or short speaker cable/long interconnects
2/ each mono weighs much less than an equivelent stereo amp - greatly saving on chiropractor bills!
3/ It's much eassier to not create earth loops in monoblocks than in stereo amps.Allen
