Yep, that's exactly the thoughtful, accurate answer that I attempted last night and abandoned because I thought,"This is a nightmare! How can I explain diode operation without including a mountain of information that will just sound like chatter?"So, Mr Mojo, I will ask you a question which is more pointed and, I believe, more specific to the question that Audiodysey needs to ask about a real problem that he has; How is it that a 1200V PIV/ 35 A bridge rectifier would be insufficient and unable to handle the voltage from a 615VAC RMS/ 160mA secondary ?
(I'm really sorry about putting you on the spot like this, but I inadvertantly hijacked this gentleman's question last week and would feel better if a definitive answer came from someone other than me. Unfortunately, like I said, I found your description of parallel thermionic rectifiers to be perfect, straightforward and easily understood. I hope you might undertake a description of serial diode operation as well. Thanks alot.)
