if the battery leaked it could be totaled..If it didnt you could have a button sticking in an on position and when you power up the unit,it already has a command going to the microprocessor and it cant reset itself until you unstick that protruding button if thats what it is..I used to see this on remote controls a lot and people would get food stuck in them holding down a command button and would replace batteries only to be disappointed..Just check the buttons you use on it and see if one is pushed in.
