Really good question and I was hoping for more response so I could also learn more. I second the comment on Duncan's PS tool. I used it to model a PSU for a pre-amp and the real world values came out exactly as modeled. Morgan Jones's book might also be a good one to consult as he has quite a bit on PSU design. The one question I have is critical values for the RC filter - does it help to set the R and C so they are "tuned" around 120 Hz. In other words, can you optimize your choices or is it not important (or practical).
