Yes, my experience is don't parallel anything if you can avoid it, and that means tubes, output transistors on power amps and particularly caps. It seems to result in smearing and/or unnatural sound.
Your description of the sonic effects of bypassing are exactly what I hear. When all were removed in my system I found a great deal more of my collection became listenable.Rob.
