Might be a simple solution. While anything is possible I tend to doubt your circuit is to blame if it works properly with two different brands of tubes. Just a suggestion.I'll admit to liking bulge boy 6dj8's but was lucky to have someone donate an Oscope that they ruined the transformer in many years ago. It had some Brimar's in it that were dated 1969...I am sure they were eastern block tubes. Totally quiet and non-microphonic with 90% of the sonics of those crazy money amperex's. Just a tip for you.
