Most SE transformers have gapped cores. PP transformers typically do not. SE trannys are gapped (an air gap or a conductive gap) according to the amount of current flowing through the primary winding to keep from shorting out the fine wire winding and maintaining permeability with that specific current level. They have to use fine wire to give it good frequency response but it won't take alot of current over which the tranny was designed for. Why don't you build a push pull amp and operate it Class A at muchly reduced power? Ray
