Of course, I have listend to a pair in a Williamson amp. The 1608 was fine, but not the best.
The input tranny would be of very low quality, if it couln't drive a pair of 6BQ5 in pentode mode. Therefore I'm thinking, that the stray capacitance of Evangelos' 1608 is too high for this aplication. Evangelos will do some new measurements without the input transformer. We should wait for his results.
