Question : Are the reference zeners tube ( OA2, etc,) or solid state? If solid state, DO USE VoltSecond's "quiet zener diode trick", ie: series-strings of 5.1VDC to 6.8 VDC zeners to get a required voltage.
It IS much quieter and should be used in EVERY quality audio piece that uses zeners, read Audio Research Corp's SP-3, SP-6, SP-8, SP-10, and early amps like the D-75, D-75A, D-76, and D-76A.
I converted a 1973 ARC D-75 to this approach over this last week, and the positive sonic results of eliminating noise from the zeners absolutely FLOORED me. Heartily recommended. Thanks so much !! for the original analysis and tip, good work VoltSecond !!!
