Home Tube DIY Asylum

Do It Yourself (DIY) paradise for tube and SET project builders.

We got something in common.

Hi.

I believe I've already addressed all yr questions in my last post to you. Let me know if it sounds better with the way I suggested to you:- use pot equal 10x O/P impedance of your CD player.

It all about sound, isn't it? IMO, passive linestages sound better than any active devices for the reason already posted to you. You should know as you already built one. Glad you use wire-wrap wires. Me too.

I tried a lot of diffferent wires for signal paths & eventually settled down for Kynar wire-wrap wires (silver coated OFC in extruded Teflon PTEE jacket). Mind you, not all wire-wrap wires sound really good. Get Kynar. Also I use the largest size readily available even in small quantities: #24 (0.036" O.D.) for easy handling. Why torture yourself? #30 is only 0.022" thick.

Why you want to change to #30 magnet wire? Sonically, it never impresses me. Kynar wire-wrap sounds so much much better, besides much easier to handle. Again, larger size is for easier handling, not for ampacity. A #30 insulated wire can handle 0.2A no sweat, more than enough for signal path.

May be I know too much about magnet wires which I supply tons to transformer winders day in day out. Most, if not all, are coated with polyester/polymideimide enamal 200C. But only one electronic OEM specifies solderable enamal magnet wire for coils winding which is polyrethane/polyamide 130C. In my magnet wire business, solderable magent wires are not popular at all.

For DIY hobby jobs, who needs a solder pot? We are NOT manufacturers!

I am in electrcial power & energy business. I'm often involved in design/manufacture/commission of power cables up to over 1000MCM & HV up to 150KV. Presently I am commissioned to provide power to 3 plating tank (8,000A per tank) for an electroplating shop. It uses
aluminum busbars previously. Guess what have I offered to replace busbars so as to save the customer big bucks.

I also custom design-build audio cables for audiophile friends & customers. Mind you I don't "manufacture" any audio cable. IMO, I am yet to audition any brandname "manufactured" audio cables that impress me. For sonic reason alone, sorry I never use magnet wires.

For budget customers, I offer them Kynar type conductors. For the best sound & money-is-no-object, AG of min 4N certified purity as conductors for the interconnect cables. In fact, all my interconnects are my own 4N-AG design-built. No copper at all, for sonic reason.

You have said it. How waste time on moot argument? Better be up to the points to address imates' "frustration."

Good listening
