RE: EF86 Preamp??

I just finished a preamp using the EF86 in triode as the input stage. The output stage uses a different tube as a cathode follower. I connected local feedback from the output cathode, which is held at zero volts DC, back to the grid of the EF86. This brings gain down from about 28dB to 6dB or less. Unfortunately, it also makes this design difficult to compare with other topologies. If I was doing this again, I would be tempted use a low mu tube like the 12B4 as the gain stage, or maybe just a cathode follower by itself.
