Hi.The idea is to minimize any shield-to-conductors capacitance which can cause HF roll-off. Hence affects the sound.
But since the braid is already come with the twisted pair of conductors, you may still use it for the peace of mind provded the shielded cable is of low-capactance design. Say, below 15pF/ft.
Of the 4 options you outlined above, (3) is what should be chosen.
