bypass cap IME. A smaller value cap like a .01 moves the "crossover" frequency up higher, but I can still hear the transition and it's always objectionable. In my view it comes down to a question of priorities---do you prefer a faster sound and more specific image focus or do you prefer a smoother, more coherent sound? A bypass cap is similar to adding a supertweeter to a nominally flat speaker design. Some folks will appreciate the apparent speed, detail and image focus with the supertweeter. Other people will say that the speaker has lost its coherency and now sounds too bright.You have to pick your poison. For my tastes, I prefer my speakers without a supertweeter and my coupling caps without a bypass.
