Heater Types and Advantages

What are some of the advantages of different heater types. Is a 6au6 a quiter than a 12au6? I was trying to decide between these tubes to build a condenser mic ( and might lower it a little bit ) and a preamp. I know when the voltage is high enough one can lower it some and lower the grid cloud, like the way the 60v heater is at 36 volts in a u47 mic. Any thoughts, general or specific are appreciated.
