strain relief installation

I'm putting the finishing touches on the internals of my amp right now so I'll be buttoning up the case in a few days. My little plastic strain relief is D shaped so is there a trick to making the hole to stick it in that I should be aware of? My plan is to make the hole a little small and file it into shape but I'm hoping there is an easier way.
