I've never looked into 1625 tubes. However considering some of the difficulties i've had on my 807 project, it would be MUCH easier to of gone with 1625 sets than 807 and incorporate a separate heater supply for the 6SN7 bottles.Primary reason is the heater winding on my power transformer is 9 VAC. I had the problem of supplying 6.3 volts so ended up going series wiring in all the tubes (had to go Schotkky diodes). Of couse you may know that series wiring presents another problem (balancing the heater voltage evenly across all bottles). On certain tubes put in, I could have 5.9 volts on 1 tube and 7.0 volts on the other.
9 volts rectified would give me the right 12.6V supply for the 1625. But then again, I would still have to add another transformer to supply the 6.3v heaters on the 6SN7 tubes.
Even less convincing, i've not come across an amp that uses 1625 tubes for audio use. Can it's sonic quality be identical to the 807 ??
Compared to 300B tubes, 807 are already at bargain prices.
