As a owner of lotsa tube driven guita amps, I can tell you that SE 6v6, el-84, etc,, will be the way to go for home practice..A vintage 30 or what ever with 5watts can be crazy loud, to loud actually for most practice..Push the front end of these little amps & you can do alot, E-bay is a geat source & DIY,,many fanatics out there &lots of kits. CeriaTone is a good company to deal with. The tone out of the SE lil amps can be supiour in tone alot of the time IMO,,so cheaper for you, & then you can pick a nice driver to go with it..My favorite amp is one that cost me almost nothing, A Wards Airline/Valco in 6v6 SE..great amp..does it match my Soldano..? in it's own way ..YES
