Thanks for all the suggestions and help.The replacment parts for the cathode bypass are to the orginal specifications, so that should not be the problem.
Sounds like next step is to replace the old wax coupling caps. Even if that is not causing the hot plate problem, they need to be replaced. Will happen next week, once they come in the mail.
