Yes, a thermistor is helpful.IMO, the thermistor belongs on the primary of the PT where it not only delays HV a little, it also greatly reduces primary current inrush due to cold filaments. I like the CL-90 for amps of this power class. This is 120 ohms cold, ~2-4 ohms hot and is good for 2A. They're now branded GE but used to be Keystone proucts.
In some apps I've worked up a simple delay circuit that shorts the thermistor after about 30 sec so it can cool off and be ready to protect if a momentary power loss occurs. It's based on the venerable 555 timer and drives a cheap 10A relay directly.
