To my limited knowledge, Tubelab’s Power Drive likely works very well and is very cost effective. Wrt power supply, I'm on a parallel search.I’m taking my time considering the best options for an 845 SE. At this stage of my thinking, two of the most important things appear to be the driver tube and esp the power supply. But I am coming around to think the power supply for the driver tube may be most important.
To digress a little and put things in perspective, circuit options considered
- 6N1P > 6W6 > 845 or
- 6SN7 > 45 > 845 (DanL kindly sent me some schematics that should work very well);
. . All the following options are good 2 watt amps: for use driving an 845, leave out the OPTs, and IT or cap couple to an 845 output stage:
- Gary Pimm’s 47 PP amp;
And 45 amps:
- Gordon Rankin’s Bugle
- recently I also ‘discovered’ John Tucker’s 1997 direct coupled, active loaded, parallel feed 45 amp.
- Gary Pimm’s all C4S loaded parafeed 45 amp www.pacifier.com/~gpimm/45_all_active.gifAt this stage, my sense (with a lot to learn) is that Gary Pimm’s C4S may be best, as it has may have the best power supply design . .
Cheers
