I, the humblest of all newbies (I guarantee you there is NO ONE HUMBLER THAT I), am still working out the part thing myself. I started examining SET circuits a while back, then decided to build a PP EL84 amp which seems to quite popular - and cheap to build, which is a major plus for a lifetime student like myself.I do understand the concept of starting with a well-planned circuit, using specific parts in the correct places, then tweaking them as you see fit.
Russ, you seem like a well-worn tube builder. What is YOUR resistor type placement scheme?
From what I've gathered, people generally recommend:
- carbon comps for grid stoppers
- decent wirewounds on the anode and in high watt areas (Kiwame CC's are also recommended)
- cathode resistor seems to be a matter of preference. I've heard WW, Riken, Tantalum, even metal film.I'll have to experiment with the shunt feedback resistor. No clue on that one yet.
