>The details of the highs seem "etchy".Sounds like IM distortion. Can I assume the 6V6 is in pentode mode? If so, you should try a EF86 driver (also in pentode mode) and a few dB of NFB. A particular version of this combination was made famous by Mullard years ago, and the sound is very smooth.
