I agree, except for the part about using caps with much higher voltage rating.Using a cap with a much higher voltage rating never allows it to "form" properly. That's why cathode bypass caps for preamp stages are commonly 5V rated. The voltage is never above 3V.
I have serviced amps where someone had replaced these with 50V caps, and they lost bass response. The caps were not working correctly at lower frequencies. Replacing with low-voltage caps of the same value solved the problem.
I believe that caps(electrolytic especially) sound best when used at close to their rated voltage.
