Bas,I've got the PERFECT tube for you, the 7Z4. Out with the Octal socket and in with the Locktal socket. I don't think you will have to do any drilling. The tube is INEXPENSIVE. You will spend more on the socket. :~)
BTW, the 6BY5 is a twin damper. For a damper, it's wimpy, but still a VERY useful type
