Not all are wirewounds some can be carbon on a ceramic former like modern carbon resisters.But they sound great in plates in cathodes I think.I have a box of NOS foxcons. The japanese amps where great.Lots of good stuff like inductive wirewounds in the cathodes(I am thinking of sansui here)I treasure the wirewounds I ripped out of a japenese star amp.Better then the amercian budget offerings of the time but the amercians had the A bomb so it had to be that way.
