I believe the 100 ohm resistor was added to give a little more isolation from the power supply. One of the disadvantages of the ultrapath circuit is that the capacitor is a low impedance pathway for any power supply noise or hum to get transmitted directly to the cathode, where it can be amplified by the tube. Without that capacitor, the noise/hum goes to the output side of the tube via the transformer, so it gets added to the output, rather than getting amplified with the input. Depending on the amplification factor of the tube, this can result in 20+ dB increase in noise/hum, all else being equal.
