...taps, even though the primary went up, the overall ratio went down....ah. thank you. criminey. I'll get this figured out someday. It so happens I have another output tx, an oldie I picked up on ebay, with a 5K primary; I'll try substituting it and see how it sounds. I also just realized I better recheck my cathode current to the 6L6GC; now that I'm changing the load on the plate the quiescent current will also change. forgot all about that. good thing I built it with a wire wound cathode pot, which, even if it isn't 25 turn, still seems to work just fine. another funny thing; no air gap!! what the heck????? maybe it's OK not to have the air gap because the primary I have been running is in the 25K range....so when I try the 5K non-air-gapped it might not work well at all. suddenly I am worried about blowing out my speakers. this would not be a good thing. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm (sound of scratching head). on second thought, I'm NOT going to try the 5K non-air-gapped oldie, but I WILL try the OP Tx I have from Angela that's for a 300B single ended (after I double-check to make sure it's air-gapped.....) :)
