I'll build when there is a theory behind it to pick out sensible component values and execute a decent design( or when the parts fall into my lap I'll put on my blindfold and start building ).IMO, any L in front of a C is going to be a good thing. I also don't like C-input for a whole host of reasons. I am not sure how much L is required to smooth out those charging spikes enough to make the design palatable. PSRR is frequency dependant, and it never gest better with increasing frequency, and that's exactly what sort of thing gets delivered by cap input filters.
Second of all, the real research done suggests that it is *NOT* just an issue of DCR but one of PS response time. One can indeed build a low-DCR( even in the so-called Ultra-Fi realm ) that performs poorly.
I am not suggesting only building an amp I can justify on paper. I do accept that there are things I can't or don't feel like trying to measure that can have a very big impact on my amp's sound. I am not suggesting that a bit of trial and error to find the right combination is a bad idea.
I'll predict now that only part of this will turn out to be useful. Good thing there are extensive archives, no? This whole so-called arguement is only over Jeff's claims to have discovered something, while failing to describe what he has discovered.
Edison discovered thermo-ionics...he just didn't know it( cause if he did, he would've exploited it to great profit ).
