Very Interesting conversion and write up.I'm always messing around with a PP2A3, and am probably envious of your original Peerless hardware, so take my suggestions with a grain of salt...
What about adding a C4S for the plate load of the EF86?
Then, maybe a C4S as cathode sink for the 6SN7GTB pair?
These seem like things that wouldn't alter the essential circuit, and might even quiet it down a little.
