Then Radio Shack sells a 100K stereo pot made buy Alps that is all of 5 bucks and good enough for a try. Now if you really want to give passive a go, and considering what one "could" spend on an attenuator, I'd say try a transformer/autoformer solution.The real answer would depend on your source. Some could drive 10K no problem.
