to see if we can agree on high feedback amps that sound good. The Citation comes to mind and is not your typical amp. I have admired some of the Marantz compensation schemes and they were considered good sounding amps as well. Given a little cooperative effort perhaps we can complie a list or methodology of feedback "do's and don'ts".For example I think we might agree that it is easy to build a decent sounding amp by keeping the number of stages to a minimum, using direct coupling where practical, incorporating short local feedback loops, and picking linear triodes with reasonable plate resistances for the task at hand. If desired one might go a little farther and consider differential amps and active or magnetic loading.
While I will admit I can follow the above steps and do okay or even better than if I try and wrap the whole nine yards in feedback I feel this only points to a lack of knowledge on my part. I guess I am trying to say global feedback seems too important to discard and I need to take that next step. Besides, it would be nice to have a 50, 60, or 100 watt amp that really did sound as nice as a few watt amp:)
