Home Tube DIY Asylum

Do It Yourself (DIY) paradise for tube and SET project builders.

It was common practice a few decades ago

In the days when some areas had AC mains and others DC, there were AC/DC radios to serve the needs of both. No transformer, of course; heaters in series with a dropper; and half-wave recification, so that one side of the mains (neutral) could be connected to the chassis. Some sets had a warning neon connected between the chassis and a true ground. If the neon lit, you had the power connected the wrong way around and might get a shock.

I do not recommend this dangerous practice!
