Tre',Thats OK, I paid $45 for it on eBay and drove it to Chicago in February where a graduate E.E. friend wire and switch modded it. We must remember that the amp must be suitable for the load. My speaker load is a seven-way ultra wideband ( plus or minus 2 dB, 12 HZ to 110,000 HZ ) loudspeaker system - and this receiver's amp section does well, surprisingly well. In its day, it was the KING of square wave response and a better low end I've yet to hear ....... anywheres. I don't have to prove my credibility to anyone these days, thats not my bag.
If I had my lovely RCA MI-1428B field coils up and running, for sure it would be a triode DIY amp I'd use. Amp must fit the load, rule one in audio. Buy a Harmon Kardon 430 or two 'offa eBay and hand select the one unit that sounds the best to you.......you would be surprised. In fact Tre', it could be a banana peel amp, and if it sounded good to me on my speakers, I'd use it, maybe even let ya know, and not worry at all about what others thought . You might do the same.
