Yes, it is the same. Whether or not tape hiss is intolerable is very subjective. If it doesn't bother you, then, it doesn't bother you. The fact that the vast majority of LPs were recorded with a dynamic range of about 10 dB and a lot of peak limiting means that you can tape them at a pretty high level, i.e., saturate the tape.
