RE: Aiwa XK-S9000 vs Nakamichi Dragon/ CR-7A

I agree, it is not a good comparison. Which is better, white wine or red? I have both a Nakamichi ZXL700 & 700II. NAK sound is unmistakable, remarkable, and heavenly to human ears. Studers have similar sound characteristics. IMHO the XK-S69000 has a less equalized (flatter) sound, but makes phenominal copies of the originals that are almost indistinguishable. The AIWA compares well to the Technics RS-M95 in that their sound was formulated by equipment engineers in a recording studio rather than a concert hall, i.e. listening to piano notes by say Nero himself. Just a matter of taste. You really cannot make a bad choice. Pick the one that is in mint condition. Or if you can turn a wrench with some skill get-em both and refurbish with the satisfaction of having brought something rare, valuable, and enjoyable back to life!
