Toobhead, please searh forum below for Top R2R decks. I mentioned that servicebility and parts availability is of utmost importance.

For example, what good is awesome Tandberg or Technics if it fails and no spares are available, and second deck you buy to cannibalize has same ailment.

Someone mentioned that there are still enough of spares for pro AMPEX decks.

I would investigate that route or Tascams.
