Re: Best High Bias Type II cassette of all time?

Hi All,

Best type II? Huge question, but some goodies have been mentioned already - one specifically as to which year SA-X - which by the way was indeed a particularly good vintage of that tape. Huge useable dynamic range of 63.8dB!! Add a well implemented Dolby S to that and you have a pretty effortless 88dB.

The Maximas from BASF were (and are, if you have some) also indeed splendid. (That's both CMII and TPII.)

Aldo first rate were JVC UFII, Maxell XLII-S, TDK SA-XG and Quantegy 472. Lets not forget Sony excellent type IIs as well, the best being UX-Pro, UX-ES, and UCX-S of about 1988. Also certain UX-S units were very fine.

All the best - Marc
