Maybe it's something else like an idler, etc. making the racket. Could be some lube has dried up, too.My repair guy probably would be willing to do the shipping thing, but as heavy as that deck is, by the time it's shipped both ways, you'd be better off having it done locally.
It's odd the Nak didn't do the trick for you. Perhaps the heads were out of adjustment? I have a 3-head Nak & it does an awesome job of playback on tapes from my TASCAM decks.
