If you mean a 'boombox', reflections are an issue. Which you discount.
So if you mean a cassette Walkman with headphones, then clearly the room is irrelevant, whether you are indoors or not. So what's the source of said impact which you believe causes a change in presentation?
In addition, the source format would also seem to be irrelevant in any physical circumstance (headphones or not), unless your implying that something special happens to cassette tape and it somehow knows whether your indoors or not?
Can you identify an environmental impact that has an effect on a cassette in a walkman but curiously not on any of the other electronic items in the playback machine?
