Re the 4-track issue, my recollection is that the Model B-III, in stock form, did not include a 4-track playback head.
To the OP, can you describe the modification that is underway? Your deck WILL use any of the headsteack configurations used by the previous (B-II) models including the ones enabling 4-track playback.
